The slat is a kind of saber (sword with only one edge) not curved. It was used only little time, hardly later that with the appearance of the sword mérovingienne, and progress which the Arabs made, by including/understanding the first that a weapon curves was more practical for a rider, with an aim of mowing the infantry.
