Latecomers
The Latecomers, companies of mercenaries who created in France after the Traité of Brétigny of the May 8th 1360.
They were composed fired people of war and vagrants of all countries. The Latecomers devastated several provinces, which, to avoid a total ruin, were obliged to repurchase itself by contributions of war. Under the orders of Small Meschin and Seguin de Badefol it prevailed of Burgundy in Languedoc.
April 6th 1362 with Brignais, they beat the army of the king Jean II, ordered by the Count of Walk, Jacques de Bourbon, sent against them. They took Pont-Saint-Esprit, and made tremble Urbain V in Avignon. Lastly, Jean II, the marquis de Montferrat, with the help of 60.000 gold guilders which the pope gave him, agree to take of it a strong part of these brigands to his pay, and disciplined them.
