Laténium
The “ Laténium ” is a archaeological Musée located at Hauterive in the Canton of Neuchâtel in Suisse. The park and the museum form a vast complex which extends on 2 500 m ² on banks of the lake. It is about the greatest traditional exposition to archeology in Switzerland. It also shelters the buildings of the service of archeology of the canton of Neuchâtel, as well as the pulpit of Prehistory (and its library) of the Institute of Prehistory and Sciences of the Antiquity of the University of Neuchâtel.
Inaugurated in 2001, the “Laténium” recalls the life and the activities of the people living in the area of Neuchâtel, but also in Switzerland. The museum permanently exposes a Chaland Gallo-Roman 20 meters length found to Bevaix at the time of subaqueous excavations. Vestiges of the Celtic time coming in particular from the site of Tène (close to Laténium) and of the lake people are also visible. One can see still there the objects left by hunters Magdalénien S which occupied the site of the museum, 15 ' 000 years ago.
It owes its name with the site of Tène, which gave its name to the Celtic civilization of the second Âge of iron.
