The following, Jack Slater is confronted with a hard reality: it is not invulnerable any more, its gun has need to be reloaded from time to time, etc Enfin and especially, it must protect the actor who incarnates it, namely Arnold Schwarzenegger itself, whose death would remove it simultaneously, without forgetting Danny which the killer takes as an hostage for rejouer in the real-world a tragic fictitious scene. Anecdotes and comments

The film being an open parody of the American action films Blockbuster, Schwarzenegger shows enormously car-derision in this film. One finds there even Sylvester Stallone as an actor replacing Schwarzenegger for the role of Terminator .

The film rather knew a failure in the United States at the time of its exit in 1993, collecting approximately 50 M$ for an important budget of 85M$. One partly explains this relative failure by the exit one week earlier only of Jurassic Park , on the way to become at the time the largest cinematographic phenomenon of all times (once again for Steven Spielberg, which had already made a success of this performance with the teeth of the sea in 1975 and AND in 1982). It is the densest film of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Badly thus considered at the time of its exit, Last Action Hero was a growing success of regard, supported by a very eulogistic word of mount, grace in particular to diffusions VHS. It is as of this manner as could appear films worships like Austin Powers 1 , whose success in room did not have anything of crashing to pieces, but which knew such a passion on the VHS, that one following been able to be considered, then produced, with success in rooms that one knows.

But Last Action Hero ended up becoming a film worship in many circles of film enthusiasts, not only because of its affectionate, ironic glance and mocker of the American blockbusters, but also because of the richness of its contents, which are rather difficult to perceive in only one vision.

Passed references amusing (the Death of the 7th seal which, it also, leaves its film), the winks (the fight of the hero fixed on a skyscraper against a helicopter leaves Rambo I , or the fictitious crossing of glances between Arnold Schwarzenneger and Robert Patrick then taken on combination of cop that he had endorsed for the role of terrifying T-1000 in Terminator 2 and the caméos, the film approaches with smoothness, more than the topic of the parallel universes, the myth of the hero of fiction, which becomes aware with bitterness of its “artificial” statute, and of the various visions world such as one can compare them “with the cinema” and “in reality”. In testify to the clear lines of dialogs of Danny that its passion does not plug on the difference between fiction and reality (“It is a world rotted here! ”), judgment underlined by more scenographic effects: the almost systematic night and rain in sad streets of New York (=la reality), gangrénées by the insecurity and misery, contrasting with the sun, the hard rock and the women (all) exceptional of California (= the dream). This violent contrast is rather to take as the testimony of a love of the cinema, which him can offer a better world to us, where the “nice ones” gain. Reassuring world and eternal that the cinema world thus; it is moreover an infantile vision deluded with a rather astonishing melancholy. One can note with the passage one of the last counterparts of malicious Bénédict, finally of a great violence: “There is only in one world like here, Jack, where the malicious ones can finally gain! ”; it is tedious obviously enough for us that it is about the real-world.

Strewn with fine of the scenario, sometimes invisible bonds (detonators and dynamites ACME, for example, use of the mythical figure of the Jellyfish in the old cinema held by Nick, etc). Last Action Hero appears of a great basic richness, a frank glance on a real-world which cannot compete with that one can invent, of a sad optimism and finally of a great love of the cinema, and defending with the passage the innocence of childhood (cf the scene of emotion little before the end when the death of the hero seems inevitable; that the realizer and the actors manage to move a spectator who has laughed for 2 a.m. is a pretty performance).
