Laser Nd-YAG

The Nd-YAG (acronym of the English name: neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet ) or yttrium-aluminum Garnet-red doped to the Neodymium (Nd: Y 3 Al 5 O 12) is a Cristal used like amplifying medium for the Laser S using of the solid media. The doping agent, of the Neodymium three times over ionized, replaces in a typical way yttrium in the crystalline matrix, the two elements having a similar size. Generally, the crystal host is doped with approximately 1% in neodymium mass.

Technology

The lasers Nd-YAG are pumped optically by means of lamps flash or of lasers diode. They constitute one of the most common types of laser, and are used in many applications.

Nd-YAG emit light with a typical Wavelength of 1064 Nanomètre S, in the Infrarouge. However, there exist transitions around 940,1120,1320 and 1440 Nm. The lasers Nd-YAG operate in the two modes pulsated and continuous. The pulsated lasers Nd-YAG function typically in the mode called Q-switching : an optical permutor is placed in the laser cavity, awaiting a Inversion of maximum population at the ions neodymium before opening. This fulfilled condition, the light wave crosses the cavity, depopulating the laser medium excited with the inversion of maximum population. In the " mode; Q-switché" , the emitted power is of 20 megawatts and of the durations of impulses lower than 10 nano second S is reached.

Nd-YAG absorbs mainly in the bands located between 730-760 Nm er 790-820 Nm
