Laser Designator

A laser Désignateur is a source Laser being used to illuminate a target in order to guide a weapon (bends or missile) or to facilitate the aiming (arms light. The laser necessarily does not operate in the Visible spectrum.

The laser désignateurs provide the targeting for Missile S or bombs to laser guidance such as the Paveway manufactured by Raytheon and the missiles AGM-114 Hellfire of Lockheed-Martin. These air ammunition detect the laser task whose frequency is very specific and fix their trajectory on it. Designation by laser can be implemented by the plane gunner, another plane or of the troops on the ground. The precision of the weapons guided by laser is of approximately 5 meters.

On the light weapons, laser désignateurs are employed in order to materialize the point of impact before the shooting. They are generally employed by troops of elite in engagements with short range. They support the reaction speed of the gunner which does not need to adapt its bodies of aimings and its target. It makes it possible even short range to draw without having to shoulder. For the groups of intervention, they also have a great dissuasive value. On the other hand, the laser designator harms the discretion of the gunner and can be difficult to see when the target is in full sun. It is for these reasons that the sights not red were success.
