Lascelle

Lascelle is a common French, located in the department of the Cantal and the area Auvergne.

Toponymy

Because of the etymology of the name of the commune ( tired concealed, the cells), it could take a “S” final: Lascelles . However official name defines in the geographical official Code of INSEE is well Lascelle without “S”.

Geography

The commune is located in the Massif Central, on the Jordanne. The commune begins the lower small valley.

History

The church of Lascelle, devoted to Rémy saint, belongs to the style arverno-Byzantine; it dominates the Jordanne.

Its cemetery, but also that of the borough of Saint-Cirgues-with-Jordanne, strike by their religious aspect: almost all the coffins have a flagstone which recovers them and distinguishes them. This use is undoubtedly due so that these two communes count a great number of emigrants, who, after being become rich, want to be turned over some to die in their village. For Auvergnat, nothing is crowned like the native land. Its country!

During very a long time, this village was one of most important of the valley of the Jordanne of share its important population for the canton, the presence of a dairy, a station with gasoline and coffees; but also by the establishment of the republican institutions, like the post office distributer and the gendarmerie squad.

In 2007, with the passing of years, major the part of the trade disappeared from the commune. The school and the gendarmerie squad are still present. The communal one gathers the quota of children of three communes, Lascelle, Saint-Cirgues-with-Jordanne and Mandailles-Saint-Julien.

To note, at least until 1874 the village of Velzic, was common of Lascelle.

The church Saint-Remy cheese, going back to the 12th century, was classified historic building in 1930.

Movable objects are also classified like historic buildings, among which:

  • a Christ in cross medieval with the martyrdom of Gaulhac;
  • in the church, a Retable of wood and the furnace bridge of the 17th century, Baptismal font wood of the 18th century of which many elements were stolen in 2003, a statue of Vierge to the Child of the 17th century and a cross of procession.

The Via ferrata of the lake of the Low registers proposes ways of a level “PD” with “D”.
