The laryngectomy is a ablation Larynx, resulting in general from a Cancer of this one. It is sometimes necessary to remove nearby bodies, of which the Pharynx (one speaks then about pharyngo-laryngectomy ). One counts in France one laryngectomized for 3.000 people, that is to say approximately 20.000 laryngectomized.
The laryngectomy is accompanied by a Trachéostomie: a hole is practiced in the throat in order to allow the passage of the air towards the Trachée.
Tracheostomy (final) ≠ tracheotomy (provisional)
The air which cannot more pass from the Poumon S towards the vocal Cords (located in the larynx), laryngectomized is a handicapped person of the voice. In certain cases, one installs a Fistule connecting the trachea to the esophagus to allow the phone, but the patient presents a risk of false route then (food taking the way of the respiratory Tracts); the dent is studied to limit this risk. To speak, the patient must then stop the stomy so that the air passes by the dent.
In absence of dent, the air which will be used “to carry the sound” can be provided by eructation S (belches) controlled: it is the technique of the Voix œsophagienne. It will be a question of pushing the air contained in the mouth towards the esophagus for then letting it leave in the form of eructation. There exist external electric prostheses, which, posed against the throat, produce a vibration which is then modulated by the mouth. There exist also pneumatic external prostheses: the air is bled stome and is brought by a pipe in the mouth; the end of this pipe vibrates, which provides the initial sound which is then modulated by the mouth.
