Larva
The larva is the first developmental stage of the individual after the blossoming of the egg or the birth at a great number of Espèce S Animal be, having an post-embryonic development called " indirect". One meets this type of development mainly in the majority of the junctions in particular at the Arthropode S (Insecte S, Crustacé S), the Mollusque S, the Annélide S, and the Chordé S (Urochordé S, " Poisson s" , Amphibian S).
The larva generally has a form and a lifestyle very different from those of the adult. Its body generally soft, and is sometimes deprived of the locomotor structures of the adult (legs, wings). Certain larvae are motionless. In the arthropods, its growth passes by driven successive. At certain species, there exist thus several successive larval stages. It can know periods of slowed down life, called Diapause S which enables him to resist the bad season, the dryness or the cold. The metamorphosis transforms the larva into reproductive adult. In the insects, an intermediate stage between the larva and the adult can be present (it is often called nymph or Chrysalide at the Lépidoptère S, nymph at the Coléoptère S, nymph or Pupe at the Hyménoptère S, Pupe at the Diptère S).
The larvae can be watery or terrestrial (surfaces some or underground). They often develop in parasite S with the detriment of other living beings, animals or plants. This parasitism, which is at the origin of certain human and animal diseases, is made profitable in the methods of biological Lutte.
At the devastating insects of the Plant S cultivated, it is often the larva which causes the most damage, in particular the caterpillar of the Lépidoptère S or the larva of the Charançon S.
A larva appears among the pets: the Silkworm which is the caterpillar of the Bombyx of the mulberry tree, high for its cocoon from where one draws the natural Soie.
The Axolotl is a particular case of animal whose development stops at the larval stage and who can thus reproduce in a larval state (Néoténie).
