Larry Williams (of his true name Lawrence E. Williams) is a singer, pianist and type-setter of Rock roll and Rhythm and American blues (May 10th, 1935, the Orleans News - January 2nd, 1980, Los Angeles), in a style close to that of Little Richard. Known for the titles Bonny Moronie and Dizzy Miss Lizzy , it was an important influence for the Beatles.

Biography

Child, it is high with New-Orleans where it learns the piano. Its family settles then with Chicago, then with Oakland, where it makes its beginnings in 1951 as bass player of the group The Teardrops, then as pianist within Lemon Drops, which interprets standards of Fats Domino or Ray Charles.

Engaged in 1954 in the orchestra of Lloyd Price, it becomes its competitor for the label Specialty, taking again Just Becausee or Lawdy Miss Clawdy . It is then chosen by Robert " Bumps" Blackwell for stage with the absence of Little Richard entered the orders. He obtains a certain success with Conceited Short Fanny , My Bonnie Moronie and Dizzy Miss Lizzy , before leaving the album Here' S Larry Williams in 1958. Then it is returned by Specialty in 1959 after being condemned for drug trafficking.

It records a new album at Chess Records, then sign at Mercury Records, but does not obtain any more any hit. It is of England that the recognition comes. Beatles record three of its titles ( Dizzy Miss Lizzy , Slow Down and Bad Boy ), and She Said Yeah is taken again by the Rolling Stones and the Animals. It then makes a round in Great Britain in 1965 in company of Johnny " Guitar" Watson, of which are resulting two albums live. He works thereafter for the companies Okeh Records, Venture and Beautiful.

Larry Williams is found died with his domimile of Laurel Canyon with a ball in the head at the age of forty-four years. The thesis of the suicide is disputed by certain.
