Larissa (in Greek Λάρισα / Lárisa ) is a Greek city located at the edge of the river Pénée. It is the chief town of the Thessalie.

Geography

Larissa is the principal city of the Thessalie, area which can be considée like the largest plain of Greece. The city profits from its situation halfway of the two most important cities of Greece: Athens and Thessalonique.

History

It is known for its mythological history , in particular in connection with Achille.

An old stone bridge spans the river. At the time, Larissa was re-elected for her horses, which were besides the effigy struck the ancient coins with, with the back, the face of the Larissa nymph.

It is in Larissa that Démétrios Ier made assassinate the king Alexandre V of Macedonia and seized the kingdom in 294 av. J-C..
