Large third

The Grosse Third is a play of Orgue pertaining to the family of the changes and more particularly to the subfamily of the large changes.

Etymology: of three, because it indicates the third degree of the diatonic scale. It is said large because she speaks one or two octave S lower than the natural third of the 8 feet (and its pipes are thus two or four times larger).

Description

The Large Third is generally a basic play flute giving the fifth Harmonique of fundamental of the set of 16 feet. More rarely it will be harmonized in principal soft. It is a set of 3 1/5 feet. On Organ S generally rather imposing, one finds it with the pedals, like third harmonic of the 32 feet; it measures 6 2/5 feet then.

To the pedals only, it can bear the name of Low Third ( Terzbass in German).
