Large swallowed
The Grandes swallowed were tropical cyclones particularly destroying which struck the island Bonaparte, current the island of the Meeting, in the south-west of the Indian Ocean, in 1806 and 1807. At the origin of considerable property damages, as well as many Dead S, in particular by Shipwreck, these phenomena described like “exceptional catacylsmes by their width ” in a recent edition of the Newspaper of the island of the Meeting . showed the complete ruin of the insular agriculture, which involved important a food shortage. In a direction, they however took part in the renewal of the local productive fabric by causing the abandonment of the culture of the Caféier, the Giroflier or the Cotonnier, Plante S far too vulnerable, in favor of that of the Canne to sugar.
