Large prostitute

The large prostitute is one of the mysterious figures of the Apocalypse of Jean. Reformed, at the beginning of their history, saw there the figure of the Rome papist, their enemy. But much of other interpretations are given by it.

Description

Description is given by it in the Bible, Livre Apocalypse chapter 17:

It held in its hand a gold cut, filled of abominations and impurities of its prostitution. 5 On its face was written a name, a mystery: " Babylon the Large one, the mother of the prostitutes and the things immondes of the terre." 6 And I saw that the woman was drunk blood of the saints and blood of the witnesses of Jésus."

Its end is described as follows (the translation can differ):

"16 And the ten horns which you saw, and the wild beast, those will haïront the prostitute and will make it devastated and naked, and will eat its flesh and will completely burn it by the feu."

Identification

It comes out five important points from it perhaps making it possible to identify it:

it bears a name, Babylon Large the . However the city Babylon is now in the desert haunted by the wild beasts. This city has nevertheless a symbol, that of the confusion of the languages at the time of the episode of the Tower of Babel. it sat on many water: the chapter 17:15 explains " And he says to me: " Water which you saw, where sat the prostitute, represent people, and crowd, and nations, and languages. ". It must logically be a question of humanity
it is delivered to the prostitution with the kings of the ground: it is known in the whole world and has a certain influence in the political world
