Large headlight of the island of Center

The large headlight of the island of Center was built between 1950 and 1951. It succeeds has a first headlight built in 1839 but destroyed in 1944 at the time of the Second world war.

History

  • In 1839, construction of the first headlight, cylindrical turn of 43 m in masonry on base.
  • In 1876, the upper part of the tower is painted in black on 12 m height.
  • In 1896, construction of the manufacturing plant of oil gas.
  • In 1932, construction of the powerplant. Fire is electrified in December 1935
  • on August 4th, 1944 the headlight is destroyed by the German troops; optics had been dismounted.

Current headlight

February 16th, 1952, the current headlight is lit on a cylindrical reinforced concrete lathe on main building built between November 1949 and October 1950.

The site is classified in 1980.

With the foot of the headlight is an electric factory and a center of desalinisation in order to feed the island in electricity and drinking water.
