Large dolphin

: For the son of Louis XIV, called " Large Dauphin" , to see Louis de France (1661-1711)

The large dolphin (also called blower , large dolphin , tursiops or dolphin with large nose ) is the species the best known one of its family, in particular because he was lengthily studied in captivity and, in a natural state, along the coasts which he likes to attend (in Florida in particular). It is that which the general public generally associates with the dolphins (televised series Flipper ), with rather characteristic a “smile”, due to the folds of its nozzle (a rostre in fact).

The large dolphins seize fish thanks to a hundred small not differentiated pointed teeth. They prefer coastal and hot water, but there exist also populations which live far from the coasts. The dolphins communicate thanks to a variety of sounds emitted via the melon , a nasal bag located on the face.
