Large Masters about Malta

The large Master about Malta is more the high ranking authority of the Ordre of Malta and is elected with life.

Großmeister of the Malteserordens STI die oberste Gewalt und wird auf Lebenszeit durch die Generalversammlung gewählt. Von dieser Regelation sind folgende historische Ausnahmen zu nennen:

1383-1395: auf den Großmeistertitel erhob Anspruch auch DER rivalisierende Großmeister Riccardo Caracciolo
1798-1801: aus Dankbarkeit für die Zuflucht in Russland setzten die Ritter ihren Großmeister Hompesch ab und erklärten den Zaren Paul I. zum Großmeister; nach dessen Ermordung (1801) wurde 1803 wieder ein römisch-katholischer Großmeister ordnungsgemäß gewählt
1805-1879: in dieser Zeit wurde der Orden von hierarchisch tiefer gestellten Leutnants geführt-->
