Large-Rechain

Large-Rechain (in Walloon Large Rtchin ) is a section of the common Belgian of Herve located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Principal part of the field of Rechain : dwelling (Germanic *haima ) of the rich person, powerful (Germanic *rikja , Dutch rijk ) or of Germanic Rico, anthroponyme.

History

Large-Rechain distinct from Small-Rechain is an entity since the 12th century.

Large-Rechain was the center of a seigniory also including/understanding the old communes of Lambermont and Wegnez. The seigniory belonged to collegial the Saint-Pierre of Liege, in the round of applause of Herve of the Duché of Limbourg.

Commune created by amputation of Lambermont and Wegnez in 1797, attached to the French department of Ourthe.
