Large-Besse
The castle of Large-Besse the , located common of Saint-Maur (Expensive), belonged to Bourbonnais, in an enclave being in Berry, between Châteaumeillant and Culan, it is undoubtedly what explains its site near the limit of the two provinces.
It is indicated also sometimes in certain titles, notammnent in 1580 under the name of Besse with Bacons, one does not know too much why.
One finds a Jean ROUGIER of Besse in 1432, perhaps would be it the manufacturer, although it can be older, if one refers of it to the form Donjon. A SAVARY, marshal sior of Besse, then MARTIN, marshal sior of Besse, lawyer, alderman of Bourges in 1507-1508. A Pelagie of VILLEBOUCHER which transmit the castle to its François grandson of ASSY, this one sell it in 1662 to Etienne RAGON, farmer general; large Besse was then an old manor.
From Etienne RAGON the castle passes to Guillaume TAHBAUD who in fact consent in 1714 and Besse passes by heritage to Boucheron de Boisvignault in 1784-1786; in 1843, sale with Julien Arthur GOHIN, then by sale with the count de Boissieu and his wife.
The current castle is composed of a square keep, of very robust aspect, lit by mullioned windows which could make it regard as being beginning of the 15° century, with a round tower of staircase lit by small square windows, in south-east a decorated door with lintel of an escutcheon which gives on the court, another gross round tower of defense is with the North-eastern exterior angle.
First enclosure remains a round tower with a section of wall and part of ditch still filled with water. Side of the East, is a whole of constructions of very diverse ages which could go back from the 17° and 18° centuries and installations made per M to Boissieu.
The building apartment is of form rectangular, with turn of staircase in the medium; a small nonaccessible brick pepper plantation on beautiful corbellings is with an angle of these buildings. The roof is surmounted ears out of metal. To the south of the castle a Roman way passed which merges partly with the way of Saint-Christophe, and would be that of Châteaumeillant with Neris.
