Larche (Alp-of-High-Provence)

Larche (in occitan Larcha ) is a common French, located in the department of the Alp-of-High-Provence and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure, in the small valley of the Ubayette, close to the Vallée of Ubaye.

Its inhabitants is called Larchois.

Geography

  • Larche is the most village of the department of the Alps de Haute Provence, at an altitude of 1700 Mr. the village is built with the junction of the torrents of Ubayette and Rouchouze.
  • Located close to the Italian border, Larche with given its name to the Collar of Larche (in Italian: '' Colle della Maddalena ) which marks the border.

  • One finds a small station of ski there.

  • Two small almost uninhabited hamlets depend on Larche: House-Méane & Malboisset.

  • the communes bordering on Larche are Meyronnes (France) and Argentera (Italy).

History

  • First mention of the village at the end of XIIe century.
  • the village suffered from its frontier position. It was plundered by the French Army in 1693 (when Ubaye was Piedmontese), then by the Piedmontese army during the wars of the Révolution. Then it was completely destroyed during the Second world war.
