Lanriec

Lanriec is an old commune of the Finistere. Since February 21st 1959, the commune of Lanriec is attached to that of Concarneau.

Origin of the name

In various texts one finds different names for Lanriec:

  • Lan Rioc at the 11th century;

  • Lanriec towards 1330;
  • Lanreuc in 1368, 1405;
  • Lanriec in 1535.

The Passage

the Passage is a district of Lanriec., it is also called the Passage Lanriec .

The origin of this name of passage is indeed related to the fact that this district was a passage obliged for a long time.

Indeed, during many centuries, there was no bridge to cross the Moros. The single place to cross the passage was between Concarneau and Lanriec. This passage was not a bridge, but installations on both sides of water in order to make there accost boats.

This passage was the only road between Quimperlé and the south-west of the Finistere, it thus was very attended.

Monument

In the center of the borough, is the church Notre-Dame de Lorette. This church, whose bell-tower is typical Cornwall, is classified historic building since 1968.
