Toponymy
The toponym Lanne appears in the forms Lane (1385, cencier of Béarn), Lana (1444, payments of the Court Majour de Béarn), Sanctus Martinus de Lanne (1673, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).It comes from the Celtic word Landa, arrived to Aquitaine with Roman colonization and means field.
History
In 1385, Lanne counted 17 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Oloron.Paul Raymond note the existence of a laic, vassal abbey of the Viscount of Béarn.
September 1st, 1905 took place the opening of the section Lanne-in-Barétous Tardets of the line Oloron-Mauléon (Compagnie of the railroad Pau-Oloron-Mauléon and the tram from Bayonne to Biarritz).
