Lanildut

Lanildut ( Br Breton Lannildud in ) is a common department of the Finistere, in the area Brittany, in France.

Lanildut comes from lann (hermitage in Breton) and from Ildut (holy Welsh of the 5th century). Ildut saint, born in the County of Clamorgan, was the tutor of saint David, holy Samson, holy Magloire and holy Gildas, all fellow students of saint pol. Aurélien. Pol. was the disciple of Ildut, and this last the disciple of Budoc. Ildut, abbot founder of the monastery of Llanilltud Fawr (Clamorgan), came in Armorique, where it approached at the coast of the Leon, with the harbor of Laber-Ildut. Saint Ildut died in Dol with.

Geography

The base (approximately 100 tons) of the Obelisk of Louqsor or Luxor, set up in 1836, on the Place of the Harmony in Paris, comes from the careers of Granit of Laber-Ildut.

History

The parish of Lanildut, mentioned as from the 15th century, depended formerly on old évêché on Leon. Lanildut sheltered the seat of the seigniory of Gouerbian.

At the 16th century, Lanildut belonged to the seneschalsy of Brest and Saint-Renan.

The commune of Lanildut increased, in 1869, with the detriment of the commune of Porspoder.

Economy

Lanildut is the first port goémonier of Europe with 35.000 tons of algae discharged on its quays each year, that is to say almost half of the national production of the Goémon. The port is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Brest.

It presents also the epopee of the goémoniers of formerly by discovering their boats, their work tools, but also of the models, films and the photographs which testify to the roughness of their daily life. Discover the traditional use of the algae like those of today.

The visit of the 11 furnaces with goémon still visible in Lanildut makes it possible to measure the seniority of this trade on the commune.
