The city framed by the slope in north and the Loire in the south is also crossed by the railway line and the road connecting Tours to Nantes. The highway skirting of the city within the highway has 85 (Angers - Tours), was the object of polemical sharp.

History

Around the year millet, the Touraine is coveted by two lords: the count of Anjou, Foulques Nerra, and the count of Blois, Eudes Ier.

At the end of the 10th century, Foulques Nerra conquers the place of Langeais, not far from Tours. A castle is then founded on the headland, in order to defend the Eastern limits of the Anjou. It remains of this unit only the vestiges of the “keep”.

Langeais knew then an animated history, in turn occupied by the counts of Blois and Anjou. In 1044, Langeais passes, with all the Touraine, between the hands of the Plantagenêts, then in that of the kings of England, their heirs.

It is in 1206 that Langeais enters the French royal field, in consequence of the victories of Philippe Auguste over Jean without Ground. From this period, the stronghold of Langeais is conceded with various large lords close to the royal capacity.

It is with the Château of Langeais that was celebrated, on December 6th, 1491, the marriage of Anne of Brittany and the king de France Charles VIII, first step of the fastening of the duchy of Brittany to the kingdom of France.

At the time of the Second world war, the August 6th 1944, a train of prisoners (military American, French deportees and German soldiers mutineers), camouflaged in military convoy, was the object of a corrosion by English aviation in station of Langeais:

the railway being completely destroyed by the explosion of a train of ammunition grapeshot by the combined planes, halfway between the stations of Langeais and Five-March the Pile, the convoy is stopped in station of Langeais. Very quickly the news is propagated downtown and the team of the Croix-Rouge langeaisienne created on the initiative of Miss Agnès Siegfried mobilizes itself. Person in charge of the stretcher-bearers I negotiate with the German soldiers the possibility of supplying the prisoners with the water buckets, the food products brought by the population to the level of the level crossing. In end of the afternoon two allied planes appear and after having flown over once the train return by the west and take in row the train, mitraillent it with the gun of 37. Bow wagons rise cries of pain and the German doctor who accompanied the convoy decides to at the head install on the ground a place of care of the train. But the number of the casualties becomes so important that it accepts the proposal which I make transport the casualties in a cellar that we arranged in rescue station (for whatever purpose it may serve because of the proximity of the base camp of Saint Nazaire installed at Five-March). The stretcher-bearers make rapids return ticket between the station and the cellar then making pass from the valid prisoners who could thus escape. The assessment was of more than 50 neat casualties and 23 dead. The following day the valid prisoners were led, with foot, Saint-Pierre-of-Body (approximately 30 km) to continue their walk towards the deportation. It is right to note that the German, grateful doctor that we ayions neat without making of difference the German casualties like French and américano-British, made me lead the 7 in the morning with the German military hospital of Tours to receive what there to reconstitute our stock of bandages and products of care exhausted in one evening.
