It has knowledge in a matter multitude (properties of végéteaux, techniques of construction, materials, perspective visualization, projection, topography, study of the landscape, history of the gardens,…).
The Garden or the contractor of green areas is that which implements work in your garden.
Relative standard test
The specificity of the landscape designer compared to the other professions is as follows:- with respect to the Environmentalist: in its aptitude to integrate subjective, cultural and social dimension of the landscape, and to implement its own creativity.
- with respect to the Architect: in its aptitude to integrate not only the plant, but more generally complexity, the evolution and the uncertainty of an alive medium, Garden with the Territory, City with the Countryside.
- with respect to the Town planner: in a culture and a professional history which takes its origin between the city, countryside and nature; in its aptitude to make Site the guide of the project (and not, contrary, to impose a project on a site), to privilege the relations between the objects (and not to treat the objects for their own individuality), to treat the articulations and to preserve empty spaces, and more generally to reconquer déstructurés spaces.
Complementary and partner of the ecologist and the Architect, dividing know-how with one or the other, the landscape designer merges for as much neither with one nor with the other, it is a speciality specific “to the Frenchwoman”. If the Architecte works on a defined project, the landscape designer, like the ecologist, manages a process which is only partially given. The ecologist is a Geographer, an engineer, a Scientifique, the landscape designer is a creator. He is more and more also regarded as a Médiateur and a Pédagogue, in the direction where its action is revealing inherent reality and modes of perceptions of our environment.
History of the profession
This profession " touch-with-tout" remain still difficle to be encircled for two reasons: on the one hand fact even of sound Interdisciplinarité; in addition because of the absence of regulation on the subject. Contrary to the profession of Architect, the occupation of landscape designer is not recognized juridically, and is thus subjected to no strict name. Since the 20th century, the engineer landscape designer works especially within agencies of landscape and makes studies as well as missions of design and landscape realization of installation.
Landscape designers today
The landscape designers contribute in practice of his profession, with sustainable development through a triple step:-
a multi-field analysis of the context: thanks to the comparison of cultural scientific informations, techniques and several fields, the landscape designer obtains an image " multicouche" reality of a space or a territory.
- a teaching action: by representing this reality in a comprehensible form by the general public, it communicates its vision of the landscapes, the territories and the mediums of life so as to make some seize the modes and the dynamic ones of evolution, the advantages and problems to come if this evolution continues, the stakes relating to the control of this evolution.
- a creative action: while conceiving and by organizing taking part and/or implementation of new spaces to be built in the preparation of plans of managements of existing spaces so as to increase the balance and the diversity of the environment.
