Landscape designer: only one term, several trades…

As a mediator, it helps to coordinate several policies or operators around a joint project and shared evolution of the landscape. Starting from a program, it has in load the creation or the requalification of public spaces (places, streets, cross-pieces of boroughs, residential spaces), of a park or a garden, the tourist design of installation and leisure… It can then ensure the design of it, estimate the project financially and define the technical methods of realization of them (choice of materials and implementations), to help to define companies, to follow the building site… Its sphere of activities are numerous: requalification of waste lands, banks, urban public spaces, residential districts, zones of activities, creation of path in high places, adjustment of the littoral, tramcar lanes… It is as much brought to intervene on patrimonial sites than considered disqualified.

Manager of a specialized company, it has in load the creation or the management of a public space, of a garden, landscape work, sporting grounds, work of pruning… Within this framework, it can also be caused to services of design. Its service includes/understands the translation of the documents of design and the definition of work, tasks, teams, materials to be implemented, the choice of the suppliers, as well as the execution and the coordination of the work of creation and maintenance. According to its competences, it can ensure its services on various fields: earthworks, small masonries, mineral and sporting grounds, sowing, plantations, establishments of networks of watering and furniture, pruning.

History of the trade of contractor landscape designer

In the past, the landscape designer was called Jardinier. One defined it as draftsman of gardens and parks. The term of landscape designer appeared with the XXe century. This trade made its great strides at the dawn of the Eighties, in reaction to the architecture of the years 60 qu ' one can characterize “very concrete”. The urban development, the creation of new cities or the construction of second home require the intervention of specialists in landscape.
