Lands off Lore: The Throne off Chaos

Lands off Lore: The Throne off Chaos (LoL) is a Video game developed by Westwood Studios in 1993 for PC.

Gameplay

Westwood Studios developed roleplays during many years. Most known are Eye off the Beholder 1 and 2. Instead of making a third shutter, Westwood chooses to make its own play by withdrawing a characteristic of their preceding achievements in this field: the compliance with the rules of the game of role on paper Keeps and dragons . Envisaged for a series of eight titles, three will be developed.

The play is very similar to Dungeon Master , namely a Roleplay in real-time and displacements puts by box according to a linear scenario. Lands off Lore is however based on the exploration of rather various places (forests, marsh, cities, keeps…) where its predecessor proposed to visit one keep distributed on several levels.

Displacements can be done with the choice, the keyboard or the mouse. The interactions with the world of the play are done very simply, while clicking on various elements posted with the screen: principal window representing a subjective sight of the environment and possible activables objects or being able to take seat in the inventory, compass making it possible to locate the direction to which the characters face, portrait of the characters showing their physical status and the conditions of which they can suffer, etc This interface simple and intuitive allows a fast catch in hands of the play.

The engagements are done also simply, either while clicking on the icon representing the weapon held by the hero or his companion, or by using a key of the keyboard. Once the weapon used, its icon becomes grayed and unusable until the character can strike again. The use of fates depends on the same system.

Scenario

Scotia, a malevolent witch, found a means of sowing chaos in the kingdom of Gladstone by releasing and directing malefic forces. King Richard sends an adventurer it main character, to choose among 4 heroes with the quite different characteristics to seek the Ruby of Truth, essential object to oppose the plans of Scotia, in the territories of the south. Alas, all will not be held… it as envisaged is the beginning of a long search which will see the hero, quickly accompanied by other characters, to be opposed to the plans of the witch through an immense and immersif universe, and to face a large variety of monsters and enemies, as well by the weapons as by the recourse to the magic.
