Geography

History

This village of the High-Jura has a double tradition related to the roughness of its climate. The inhabitants of the villages of this area had two trades. The trade of farmer and a trade says “trade of window”. The trade of window of this village was the trade of Lapidaire. Today one finds in this village a small museum recalling the history and the technique of these concise.

Etymology of the name " Lamoura" is simple: it is about a Franco-Provençal name (delivery " the " mour (a)" with accent on the " ou" and not on the " a" final, almost dull) indicating a rock cluster, a rock bar. The word is to be brought closer to " moraine" (Franco-Provençal term), of Lamure etc. One notes in Lamoura a locality " the base of Meures" who confirms this étymolgie. Any bringing together with " Muire" is to be excluded

The village of Lamoura shelters an important vacation village. In winter, it is a family ski station.
