Places and monuments
Although of modest, the church of Mailhat, old size Chapelle of the Prieuré Clunisien of Sauxillanges has a carved program which does not have anything to envy those of the major churches of Low-Auvergne.
Equipped with a single nave, a chorus in clover plan and with a Narthex typically auvergnats, this building underwent some installations at the 14th century: the Abside was elevated several meters to receive a strengthened part. This Apse, of polygonal form, adopts an architectural structure frequently employed in certain churches of the area, as with Auzon for the Collégiale the St. Lawrence.
In addition to its architecture characteristic of the area, the monument offers an exceptional southern gate: Voussure S in semicircular arch rest on an alignment of posts with Chapiteau X, of which some, out of blue marble, are re-employments of Gallo-Roman time .
The Sculpture S on the oven walls represent Poisson S, a Femme with the centres bitten by Serpent S, squatted characters. Lust, avarice, defects seem to invade the outside of the monument, also adapting the many ones modillons with the disconcerting simiesques faces.
Inside, of the Angel S, of the bearded men, squatted, the capital X are monopolized. Atlantes answer of the Sirène S tail bifide; a Chouette absorbs a tortoise…
