Lamberto Dini

Lamberto Dini (born on March 1st 1931 with Florence), is a banker and Italian politician.

Biography

International banker

Regarded as one of the largest Italian specialists in the economy and finance. Passed by the American universities of the Minnesota and the Michigan, before entering to the Funds international currency (the IMF) in 1959, it will remain there until in 1979, climbing all the levels to become, in 1975, central deputy manager for the African businesses, then representing Italy in the Executive committee, then executive director.

Managing director of the Bank of Italy

Appointed managing director of the Bank of Italy in September 1979, it becomes the number two of the institute after the governor Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. But the relations between the two will be never excellent, and during the 15 years of its mandate Mr. Dini will préféréra to keep the low profile.

Minister of Finances

In April 1994 Mr. Dini must undergo a bitter failure: Mr. Ciampi leaving the Bank to become president of the Council of Ministers names governor Antonio Fazio who was only one of two vice managing directors. Ravaged, the May 10th 1994 Mr. Dini leaves the Banque of Italy to enter the 1st government of Silvio Berlusconi as a Minister of Finances.

President of the Council

The government resigns the January 17th 1995. Charged by the Head of the State Oscar Luigi Scalfaro with forming a government of personalities resulting from the civil society, it is President of the Italian Council and Minister of Finances of the January 17th 1995 with the May 17th 1996. Following the resignations of the Minister of Justice, he is also Minister for the Justice of the October 19th 1995 with the February 16th 1996.

End 1995, it takes its distances from Forza Italia, the party of Berlusconi and created her own party, the Italian Renouveau which will be only one marginal success.

Foreign Minister

Elected official appointed in April 1996, he is Foreign Minister of the May 17th 1996 with the June 11th 2001 in the 1st governments of Romano Prodi, 1st and the 2nd government of Massimo D' Alema and the 2nd government of Giuliano Amato.

With the Senate

Elected official senator in April 2001, it is for 5 years vice-president of the Senate. Read again in May 2006, it is since the president of the commission Foreign affairs of the Senate.

It was until in 2004 one of the 105 members of the Convention on the future of Europe charged to write the Traité establishing a Constitution for Europe, as a member of parlament the Italy N. ----
