Lambert of Spolète (towards 880 - 898) was emperor of the Western Empire and King d' Italie (892 - 898)

Wire of Guy de Spolète and Ageltrude, it was associated with the throne as of May 891 by his father who had been crowned emperor in 891 by Etienne VI. The following pope, Formosa, were constrained to crown Lambert as king d' Italie. As soon as possible, this pope called with the rescue Arnulf de Carinthie, which came to septentrional Italy and was opposed to the interests of Guy and Lambert.

To died of his/her father in 894, Lambert went to Rome to be made recognize as emperor by Formosa which was opposed to it, since it awaited Arnulf and was imprisoned with the Château Saint-Angel. Released in 896 by Arnulf, he hastened to crown emperor this last. Formosa died a little later while Arnulf, struck of a attacks, had to give up the military countryside.

Ageltrude obtained new pope Etienne VII, elected with its influence, that a lawsuit against its predecessor in was held 897: the corpse of Formosa thus was exhumed, subjected to a macabre lawsuit, mutilated and thrown in the the Tiber, this event is known like the cadaveric Concile.

In May 898 the pope Jean IX with the synod of Ravenne declared no one the sacring of Arnulf and supported Lambert, which died accidentally during a hunting the October 15th 898.
