Lambert of Ardres

Lambert of Ardres (v. 1160 - 1227) is a chronicler French 12th century. Cleaned village of Ardres, not far from Calais, he is the author of a chivalrous chronicle which is one of most picturesque north of France.

This chronicle entitled Historia comitum Ghisnensium recalls the history of the counts of Guînes and the lords of Ardres. One finds there also feudal legends and traditions . Composed initially between 1194 and 1198, it was completed in 1203. It was published for the first time in 1855 under the title Chronique of Guines and Ardre by Denis-Charles Godefroy-Ménilglaise.
