Lambert Sigisbert Adam , known as Adam elder the , is a sculptor French born with Nancy the October 10th 1700 and died in Paris the May 12th 1759.

Biography

Wire of the sculptor Jacob Sigisbert Adam of Nancy, Lambert Sigisbert Adam was the elder one of three brothers who all were sculptors. It was initially formed by his father in Metz and Paris in the workshop of François Dumont before spending ten years to the Académie from France to Rome, after having obtained in 1723 the Grand Prix of sculpture. During its stay, it was protected by the cardinal Melchior from Polignac, ambassador of France close the the Holy See, for which it restored or copied ancient statues. Thus it skilfully restored the twelve statues found in the alleged villa of Marius. He was also elected member of the Academy of Saint-Luc in 1732.

During this very long stay with Rome, it acquired a technique and a sensitivity which more attach it to the Baroque with the Rococo. In its predilection for the setting in scene testifies to water, through sculptures intended for fountains or allegories. It gained in 1731 the contest for the Fontaine of Trevi in Rome, but the pope Clément XII did not follow the choice of the jury and commissioned Nicola Salvi.

He worked with the famous cascades of the Château of Saint-Cloud ( the Seine and the Marne ), carved the central group of the basin of Neptune of the Château of Versailles ( Triomphe of Neptune and Amphitrite , 1740), worked with the Palais of Sanssouci to Potsdam ( Hunting and Fishing ). ¨Pour its reception with the royal Academy of painting and sculpture in 1737, it gave a Neptune calming the irritated floods .
