History

The town of Lalinde was identified as being the antique station Diolindum of the table of Peutinger. Recent studies still strengthened the thesis of the historians of Gaulle who placed this " mansio" with Lalinde. In XIe century a parish will be created in edge of the Dordogne river, which will bear the name of Linda . In 1242, for the first time in the texts a lord of the place appears, Geoffroy of Lynde. A few years later, in 1267, a country house will be built by the king of England. It is an English knight whose ancestors had emigrated in England at the time of William the Conqueror, who will have the load of the construction of this city. It bore the name of Jean of Lynde, and this homonymy with fact of believing for a long time that this character had left his name to the city. Since the research carried out with the English files in 1990, by a local author, we know that the family of Linde lived forever on the ground périgourdin. This family appears in the county of Dorset since XIe century, it had enormous fields there.
