Lakhva

Lakhva (or Lachwa or Lachva) (in Belorusse: Лахва; in Russian: Лахва; in Polish: Łachwa; in Hebrew: לחווא; in Yiddish: לאַכװע) was a village of Poland of 1919 to 1939 then of the Bielorussia since 1939. Lakhva is located at 200 kilometers southern of Minsk. The village counts 2.100 inhabitants.

During the 20th century, this village belonged to the Russian empire , then belonged to the territory Polish of 1919 with 1939, then finally of Soviet Bielorussia then independent.

Lakhva is known for the rising of the Ghetto Juif during the Second world war. Before the war, Lakhva was a Shtetl (Jewish village of Eastern Europe). The ghetto of Lakhva was created in April 1942 and practically destroyed in September 1942 after the insurrection of its occupants against the Nazis. Approximately 600 Jews are killed during armed resistance, but approximately 1000 Jews succeed in escaping the barrier from ghetto, and 600 of them reach the marshes of Pripet. The majority of escaped prisoners are betrayed by the inhabitants of the surroundings, and only 120 manage to reach the forest. Approximately 500 people are brought to the pits and are carried out.
