Lake of the East
The lake of the drill of the East is a artificial Lac located in the basin of high the the Seine, in the Département of the Paddle and in the Regional natural park of the forest of the East. Brought into service in 1966, this lake-tank, in derivation compared to the course of the Seine, fact part of a whole of four works intended to control the flow of the river by limiting the risings and by ensuring a minimum low water level. The three others are the Lac of DER-Chantecoq, in derivation of the Marne, the lakes Amance and of the Temple, in derivation of the Aube, the Lac of Pannecière on the Yonne, It is managed by a administrative public corporation, the “Institution interdépartementale of the storage dams of the basin of the Seine” (IIBRBS)
Its name comes owing to the fact that the place where it east belonged to the templiers.
Offering a water level of 2300 hectares, this lake has a storage capacity of 205 million cubic meters. It is closed by several Digue S out of compacted ground, of which most, the dam of Morge, reached 25 meters in height. It is fed by a channel taking the water of the Seine upstream of Troyes. The management of the lake is done according to a water payment defined by order of the prefect.
The creation of the lake made it possible to develop tourist activities and leisures, bathe, veil and fishing in particular. It also accommodates an ornithological reserve.
