Lake of lava
A lake of lava and the name given to a lake containing of the Basaltic Lava effusive and fluid at high temperature, contained in the crater of a red Volcano in activity.
The duration of the existence of a lake of lava depends on the activity of the Volcan. The temperature (1000° Celsius at least) remains sufficient only if the volcano remains in eruption. If a fall of activity arises, the temperature of the lake of lava can cool (less 1000° Celsius), the lava to solidify and leave room to a thin layer of solid basalt.
A lake of lava is found:
- In the crater of the Kilauea to Hawaii
- In the two craters of the Erta Ale in Ethiopia
- In the crater of the Nyiragongo, Democratic republic of Congo
- In the Mount Erebus, Antartique
- In the crater of the Villarrica, Chile
- In the crater of the Karthala, the Comoros
