Lake of Village

The lake of Village (in Slovenien: Blejsko jezero ; in German: Veldeser See ) is a glacial Lac of Slovenia. Located in Eastern edge of the the Alps juliennes, with 55 kilometers of the center of the capital Ljubljana, it is one of the principal tourist destinations of the country.

The banks of the lake are largely arranged. It is bordered in the east by the town of Bled, and its medieval castle (XIe century) which dominates the lake at the top of a cliff of 130 meters. One finds near many hotels, of which the old residence of holidays of Tito transformed into luxury hotel.

The lake is of size reduced, 2.120 meters length on 1.380 meters broad to the maximum, for a surface of 145 hectares. It encircles the only island of the country, Blejski otok, known for its neogothic church of XVe century built on a place of pagan worship of the first Slave S.

The lake was on several occasions (1966, 1979 and 1989) the theater of Championnats of the world of oar. The championships of the world 2011 will be also organized there.
