Lake Placid is an American city in the State of New York in the middle of the mountains Adirondacks.

History

Founded at the beginning of the 19th century for the needs for the iron mines which had just been discovered, it owes its name with the homonymous and adjacent lake at the city.

It accommodated twice the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 as well as the Championnats of the world of cross-country skiing 1980.

Demography

It counted approximately 2638 inhabitants in 2000.

Economy

Lake Placid is a city primarily directed towards tourism (located in the middle of the federal Parc of Adirondacks) and the winter sports. An airport, Lake Placid Airport (LKP), is in the south of the city.
