Lake Orumieh
The Lake Orumieh دریاچهارومیه|Daryācheh-ye Orumieh is a lake salted in the North-West of the Iran, in the Iranian Azerbaïdjan (between the provinces of Eastern Azerbaïdjan and Western Azerbaïdjan, with the west of the Caspian Sea, which with the same form). It is more the big lake in Iran, with a surface of approximately 5.200 km ². In its greater dimensions, it is approximately 140 km long and 55 km broad. Its maximum depth is approximately 16 Mr.
The lake is named according to the name of the town of Orumieh, a name of origin Syriaque meaning quoted of water . It was called Lac Rezaieh دریاچهرضائیه|Daryācheh-ye Rezaieh with the beginning of the year 1930 according to the name of Reza Pahlavi, then Shah of Iran, but famous Orumieh in the middle of the years 1970. Its old name Persan was Chichast . With the Lake Van and the Lake Sevan, it is one of the three big lakes of the Royaume antique of Arménie, to which one refers like the seas of Arménie .
The lake is strewn of more than one hundred of rock small islands, which are a stagnation point for various species of birds during their migration (of which the Flamant S, the Pélican S, the spatulas, the Ibis, the storks, the Tadorne S, the Avocette S, the stilts and the Goéland S). The second larger island of the lake, Kaboudi, would be the place where Hulagu Khan is buried, the grandson of Genghis Khan and victorious of Baghdad.
The lake is salted too much so that Poisson S can live there. Most of the lake is regarded as a national park.
The lake is a major barrier between the two more important cities of the Eastern Azerbaïdjan and the Western Azerbaïdjan, Orumieh and Tabriz. A project of bridge to the top of the lake was started in the years 1970, but was abandoned after the revolution of 1979. The project was started again with the beginning of the year 2000 and should finish in 2005-2006.
The Lake Orumieh narrows, with an annual evaporation from 0,6 to 1 Mr. salts of the lake are used for their medical effects, in particular against the Rhumatisme S.
