Lake Narlay

The Lake Narlay is a small lake of the department of the the Jura (39) located on the commune of Frasnois (39130).

Geographical presentation

Located in the zone of the plates, in the south of Champagnole, 748 meters of altitude, the Lake Narlay is one of the water levels of the area of the lakes, characteristic of the relief Jurassic Calcaire . One finds in the vicinity the Lac of Ilay, the Lacs of Maclu and the Lac of Vernois.

Its surface is of 41 hectares with a maximum length of 950 meters for a width of 625 meters. Bordered of meadows and forests, it presents the shape of funnel with edges rather abrupt since its maximum depth is of 40 meters, most important of all the Jurassic lakes. It is fed by small local sources with a small catchment area of 5,5 km ² and its underground outfall joined the Lac of Chalain The Lake Narlay is a fragile lake but its medical condition improves little by little and a convention of regulation of the agricultural pollutants has been installation for a few years.

Activities

Property of the commune of Frasnois since 1983, the Lake Narlay does not enjoy a notable tourist exploitation yet. Nevertheless the bathe is authorized in water of the lake: it is not supervised and the beaches remain to be arranged. The place is attended by the fishermen and the holiday makers, amateurs of camp-site or residents secondary. Let us note also the presence of plungers attracted by the important depth of the lake whose water is however cold.

The Lake Narlay takes part thus in the attraction of the department of the the Jura which put rightly on its natural sites and the country holidays and active in a vivifying and protected medium.
