Lake Melville

the lake Melville () is a salted lake of the Eastern coast of the Labrador. It is attached to Inlet of Hamilton in the east by a narrow passage. From a surface of 3069 km2, a depth going until 300 meters, it extends on 140 km inside the grounds until its two prolongations in the west: Goose Bay and Grand Lake. Surrounded by mountains and rock hills, the lake is fed by several important rivers of which the Churchill river which drains most of Labrador. An air military base dating from the second world war is at Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The name of Melville was given to the lake in the honor of the Viscount Melville (1742-1811), an eminent British politician.
