Lake May-Ndombe

The lake May-Ndombe (old lake Léopold II ) is a lake of the Bandundu, in Democratic republic of Congo. It feeds the river Fimi, an affluent of the river Congo. The lake Léopold II was renamed lake May-Ndombe in 1972. May ndombe means “black water” in Lingala. The size of the lake varies with the rains and can double or triple in surface according to the season of rain. The lake remains navigable all the year. Its banks are bordered of dense forests in north and a mixture of forest and savanna in the south. Its ports are Inongo and Ndongese.
