Lake Matapédia


the Lake Matapédia is a water level of the Quebec, in the MRC of Matapédia. From a surface of 38 km ², it extends over a 19 km length and a maximum width from 3 km.

The lake Matapédia is to about thirty kilometers of Matane, in the old seigniory of the Lake-Matapédia, conceded in 1694 in Charles-Nicolas-Joseph Damours de Louvières. Stanislas Drapeau presents, in 1863, the written form Matapediac for the lake, the way and the canton on a chart published in Études on the development of the colonization of the Low-Canada. However, in the text of this work, Drapeau writes Matapédia for the lake, the river and the canton. The chart of Quebec of 1870 of Eugene Taché carries the Matapédia current form.

According to the Peaceful father, the name Matapedia intrigue is drawn from matapegiag and means the river separates in several branches, fact fork . Joseph-Etienne Guinard claims that Matapédia has the direction rather, in micmaque language, of junction of rivers , of subdued , junction and pegiag , river.
