Lake Mékinac

The lake Mékinac is large a Lac of Fresh water of the Quebec (Canada).

The name Mékinac comes from " head of tortoise " in Amerindian Language and indicates one to promontoir which has this form in the middle of the Lake. Fact in form of cross, it makes 18 km length by 2 km broad. Boxed in high Mountain S, only a portion of the Rive S is occupied by the Chalet S. the lake offers a very beautiful water level for the walks in Bateau or Kayak. It is also very pleasant to go up the few rivers which are thrown to it, in particular the Rivière of the Medium, so called river with the Brochet S, which is very long and all in Méandre S. a section of the river of the Medium is one of rare the Sanctuaire S of reproduction recognized by the Gouvernement of Quebec; the fishing is thus prohibited there all the year. The descent of the Mékinac river which is the discharge of the lake towards the Rivière Saint-Maurice is also very known like a river with some rapids to go down to the Printemps.

As regards fishing, the lucky ones catch Ouananiche S (a Saumon of Fresh water), at the beginning of fishing with spring, one can fish also there pikes, maskinongé S, Perchaude, gray Truite, and other species.

To go there to take the Road 155 along the Saint-Maurice river and to turn in the direction of Three-Banks (Saint-Joseph-with-Mékinac), exceed the Village and follow the indications towards the Lake Mekinac.
