Lake Kanas

The lake Kanas (喀納斯湖; Pinyin: Kānàsī Hú) is a lake of mountain located in the southernmost edge of the chain of the Altaï, with the borders of the Siberian Taïga , in the autonomous region of the Xinjiang, in China. Its name, of origin Mongolian E, means “countered fertile and mysterious”. It is sometimes called “pallet of God” because of the multiplicity and the beauty of its colors.

Geography

Located in a glacial valley of origin , it affects the shape of a crescent of 24 km length of north in the south, for an average width of 1,9 km. It reaches a maximum depth of 188 m, which makes of it the deepest fresh water lake of China. Its surface is of 44,78 km ², and its altitude of: 1374 Mr.

He is surrounded by a natural reserve of: 5588 km ², whose enlarging is in project.

Population

The people tuwa, of Mongolian ethnic origin , have lived in the area for at least four centuries, living wandering breeding and hunting. Current population, of approximately: 2000 people, is mainly installed in the villages of Tuwa, Hemu and Baihaba. They are often indicated under the names of “Tribe in the clouds” and “Inhabitants of the forest”.

Flora and fauna

The vegetation is mainly made up of meadows and forests of Conifère S characteristics of the Taïga, like the Mélèze of Siberia ( Larix sibirica ), the spruce of Siberia ( Picea obovata ), the Pin of Siberia ( Pinus sibirica ) or the Sapin of Siberia ( Abies sibirica ).

Natural reserve shelters in particular the leopard of snows ( Panthera unica ), the lynx ( Lynx lynx ), the stag ( Cervus elaphus ), the Zibeline ( Martes zibellina ), the Bouquetin ( Capra ibex ), the Mouflon ( Ovis ammon ), the Arctic Lièvre ( Lepus timidus ), and, among the most characteristic birds, various species of the family of the tétraonidés like the Tétras-lyre ( Tetrao tetrix ) or the Hazel grouse ( Bonasa bonasia ) .

As for the Log Born in Scotland, some claim that a monstrous animal, called gwaiwu locally, would have elected residence there.
