Lake Balaton
The lake Balaton is vastest Lac of Central Europe. It is stretched along the southern buttresses of the Monts Bakony in Hungary. Length of 78 varying km for a width of 1,5 km with 15 km, this lake are fed by about thirty small sources and river.
The Zala is most important of its affluents. Before reaching the lake, it crosses a wetland (in the western south of the lake), now arranged, called the KIS-Balaton (the " small Balaton"). The discharge system of the lake is the Sió channel which joined the Danube. The flow of exit is controlled by a lock.
The lake Balaton with the characteristic to have a very low depth: 3,90 m of average depth and 12 m at the major place. Its origin is a very light trough fault (presence of many faults). Volcanic the reliefs presence (the Badacsony mount, peninsula of Tihany, etc) testify to the increase of lava starting from the faults.
