The Lake Aydat is more the natural big lake of Auvergne. It is about a volcanic storage reservoir. The emergence of lava flow (the cheyre) of the puys of the Cow and of Lassolas locked the river of the Veyre, blocking the advance of water and thus creating a natural reserve. The island located close to northern bank is called Sidoine saint, to remember it the Bishop Sidoine Apollinaire who had a Roman villa at the edge of the lake.
Located within a remarkable timbered framework, the environment of the lake is favourable with pleasant walks (the turn of the lake makes 5,5 km).
