The lake Arenal is an artificial lake of the Costa Rica

It is located at the North-West of the country, with the foot of the volcano of the same name, close to the town of Fortuna, in the area of Guanacaste.

The construction of a stopping in 1974, to answer a request growing out of water and electricity, more than doubled its surface and made of it more the big lake of the country. It currently covers 70% of the requirements in electricity for the country.

The presence of wind in the area of the lake is constant, which makes of it not only one spot recognized for the veliplanchists, but also an ideal site for the wind energy, as with Tierras Morenas, in the North-East of the lake.
