Lake Anterne

The Lake Anterne is located at 2063 meters of altitude, on the projecting ledge of Anterne, in the natural reserve of Sixt-Passy (common of Sixt-Iron-with-Horse). Of a surface of 10 hectares, it rests at the bottom of a circus bordered of tops, in north the impressive cliff of the Rochers of Fiz, high several hundreds of meters (Head to the Ass 2804 m), in the east, Frêtes de Villy and of Moëde (Head of Willy 2481 meters). Higher, in the south, the Col of Anterne (2257 m) is a passage privileged between the Haut-Giffre and the solid mass of the Red Aiguilles. One can also go down towards the Vallée from Arve and Saint-Gervais-the-Baths.

This lake is populated of Truite S and ombles knights. In its meadows live the Marmotte S, the alpine Lagopède and the Bouquetin S.

In 2001, the sediments of the lake were the object of a study, within the framework of the research program on the climate changes, starting from the extraction of a carrot of 12,5 meters. Among the results, following information could be obtained:

  • the average temperature has increased 1,2°C for 150 years, and the speed of the change is without precedent since the beginning of our era.
  • As of the conquest of the Allobrogie by the Romans in -121, they reflect in exploitation the seams of Galène of the Haute-Savoie to extract from it the Plomb by heating from crystal and rejecting into the atmosphere of lead dust.
  • Starting from 1970, the sediments recorded an important news pollution with lead due to the petrol consumption to lead. The analyzes show that part of this lead comes from the the United States and even of the Australia.

Access: 7:30 of walk return ticket starting from the carpark of Lignon, after Sixt-Iron-with-Horse - Made uneven 950 meters, difficult course in the rise of the Collet of Anterne. Rise supported after the refuge also. Path without difficulty for the remainder. The course is done by the path of great excursion GR5 (common with the GR96 cascades of Sauffraz and Whining 1430 m of altitude have), then reached the collet of Anterne (1800 m) and the country cottages of Anterne. They are old country cottages of Mountain pasture of which a fact office of refuge in summer. One can also join the lake by the Cirque of the Funds (1308 m), then while going up to the small Collar of Anterne (2038 m) (or Low of the Collar of Anterne) and thus carry out a loop at the beginning of Salvagny. An alternative leaves the hamlet of Fardelays, after the cascade of the Mullet. The Bottom of the Collar of Anterne being difficult to find since the lake, it is advised to use this alternative for the rise more especially as there the uneven one is less violent at the beginning.
